OILS - ON SHOW IN CASEYS, RAHEEN, LIMERICK FOR APRIL AND MAY
I found this challenge really helped my and informed my painting in other mediums. I learned that it is so important to get your drawing right before you apply paint.
The process is use:
- Complete the drawing of your subject paying particular attention to composition. Draw a subject you like and one where you can visualise the outcome.
 - Mask off any areas that will be white or highlights - using appropriate size and brush shapes - make sure to wash the bush immediately after use in warm soapy water and rinse well. Allow masking to dry completely - go away and do something else while drying.
 - Mix several shades (at least 3) of each colour you intend to use. Plan well.
 - Starting at the top, apply first layer of pre-mixed colours or a wash.
 - Don't over-work - less is more in watercolour painting.
 - Work up the shades
 - Apply highlights or take off paint using water and kitchen towel
 - Peel off masking
 - Pen in details
 - Sign and leave it alone.
 - Leave the painting to sit for a week to see if you need to make minor adjustments and remember
 - do not expect every attempt to be a masterpiece.
